On this past Saturday, DCR introduced redevelopment partners Architectural Heritage Foundation and 243 Dutton Street LLC at a nicely turned out neighborhood meeting. Community members gathered to sip coffee and munch on delicious treats from Western Avenue-based Swiss Bakers.
AHF introduced their concept for the re-activated Speedway. The plan includes renovating the historic Speedway buildings and relies upon opening the Speedway courtyard to public activities and uses, using the restored buildings for a mix of uses including offices for not for profits and may also feature some mix of a fresh food market and restaurant. The project will also include a new building for housing on the site of the non-historic garages currently located along Soldiers Field Road.
Also announced at the meeting was the official launch of www.speedwayhq.com. Check back often for posts and updates!
A highlight of the day was a performance by a talented young violinist who took perch next to one of the tractors that lives in the courtyard (for now).
